Research & Development at STEIM

still waiting for some parts from abroad so it is taking more time than i thought...(like always)
but i'm expecting it on monday(or tuesday) so i'll make one midi-in/5solenoids-controller box as soon as it arrives...
multiplying it would be easier job...
so we're about 1 week late from the original schedule...
and jasna needs mechanical construction of the instrument( frame, mount etc) as well...
i asked kees and he's willing to do the job...(thanks!)
he's busy next week but from the week after, he'll work on how to mount the solenoids and other instruments...
8, 9th: jun makes 1 box and give to jasna to test at home
9 ~ 15th: jun makes the rest( 3 or 4 depending on jasna's need)
15th~ : kees builds the frame( jasna, reserve a steim studio with nico@steim.nl if you want to experiment at steim)
1st of Apr. : rehearsal starts
13th : premiere
since we're running out of time, i'll send you work progress including photos to share the ideas...
as you can see in the photo, there're 5 solenoids input XLR connectors...
on the back panel, there'll be midi in connecter and power input...
so basic diagram is...
keyboard-(midi in) midi interface (midiout 1) - box1 - 5 solenoids
(midiout 2) - box2 - 5 solenoids
and so on...
you get the idea, right?
so if we use 4 boxes(20solenoids) then we need a midi interface with 4 midi outputs which steim has...

you may see the solenoid behind the box...
the reverse T shape mount is the left over form the previous solenoid project at steim...
it fits and we may need it for each solenoid...( kees, you know this bendable aluminum stick which you used for Magdalen's project, right?)
and on top of the solenoid, i've put a joint to connect solenoids to other part...
i assume each box(5 solenoids) makes one instrument on the stage...
that means 3~4 separate instrument with a fame and mount...
depending on the situation, solenoids can stand up as it is in the photo, face side or down towards the object to hit on...
