Directed by Sung Hwan Kim
With dogr and Byungjun Kwon

The performance at the New Museum is a variation of Sung Hwan Kim’s In the room 3 (dog I knew) with new sets and props. The performance opens with an excerpt from Rainer Maria Rilke’s poetry and proceeds in a roundabout way to tell a story about being inside the very shape of this circuitous path.

Sung Hwan Kim’s “In the room” series is told through text, film/video, and music (in collaboration with dogr, a.k.a David Michael DiGregorio). The music itself is made with layered voice, ocarina, delay, a sampling keyboard, harmonica, kazoo, pump organ, guitar, mallets, stretched membranous materials, jae-gum (Korean cymbals), and pang-eul (Korean bells). Thickly layered vocal harmonies interweave themselves with other parts of the narrative; a vocalist might turn into a character in the storytelling process, just as the story might turn into music.

STEIM@40! Summer Season Ending Party

Come join us celebrate the first half of our 40th anniversary with performances, installations and presentations in all of our studios.
One year ago, on the same day, we hosted a memorable event with artists and audience members from around the world gathering to show support for STEIM when it was under threat to cease to exist. That night also coincided with the passing of our former director Michel Waisvisz. This year, we want to remember the hard times of last year's and thank our audience that got us through it. And of course to celebrate our 40th birthday. The evening will feature exciting local and international acts, a room dedicated to our late director and his achievements in electronic music, and presentations of new work that has been done at STEIM. Hope to see you all there!

sOo's cOllage (KR)

Angelika Niescier, last year’s Musician in Residence, is responsible for this performer’s invitation to Moers. During a concert tour for the Goethe Institut, Niescier heard Soo-Jung Kae play in Seoul and was completely blown away. Soo-Jung Kae is an extremely independent musician with a background as a classical pianist and deep roots in the music of her native country. Her group “cOllage” allows her to seek improvisational freedom and display the full extent of her talent.

Performance
Fri 3, Apr 2009 9:30pm - 10:30pm @ Gallery TPW

Live 3: In the Room 3
Sung Hwan Kim, dogr (aka David Michael DiGregorio) and Byungjun Kwon

Live 3: In the Room 3Incorporating electronic music, performance, drawing, and both live and pre-recorded video, In the Room 3 weaves in and out of a dream-like state of memory and imagination, operating in a world that subscribes to its own internal rhythm and logic. Here seemingly simple actions take on magical qualities: a man draws on a glass vase, fills it with ping pong balls and milk, and stirs until the drawing disappears; a wall of coloured tissue paper rustles with the wind from a body walking past; a man draws faces with marker and spit as his intimate images are simultaneously projected into the center of a room; he tells a strange story:

i've been working on designing and building this installation, part of redsound festival in rotterdam  commissioned by jan-bas bollen for almost three month...
it'll be running from the 13th till 21st of March, day and night in Maas tunnel...
and i made short documentation about it and more to be added soon...
jan-bas made quite nice composition out of it...
so if you happen to be in r'dam, enjoy biking through the tunnel...

54KOLAKTIV NIGHT
